ADHD is a disorder that is usually observed in children and teens. The symptoms of ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, include hyperactivity or impulsive behavior, and the inability to pay attention.
Although there are different symptoms that you can observe in different individuals that have ADHD, you will notice a pattern which each of the cases of children with this disorder. This includes carelessness, over active, emotional instability, and lack of patience. Because it is normal for small children to be very active, it is sometimes difficult to identify ADHD in very small children. However, ADHD kids are unusually more active than the normal active kid. These kids are usually all over the place running, jumping, climbing and getting distracted easily. They struggle getting sleep and are unable to listen even to a short bedtime story.
However, not all hyperactive children have ADHD. They can easily be identified with symptoms like lack of attention towards studies, inability to plan their school day, learning difficulties, not able to follow instructions, and failing to finish school work. They take keeping promises very seriously and become emotional and sensitive about it. They burst out in anger for promises that are not fulfilled.
When treating a child with ADHD, medications are usually given combined with psychological and behavioral therapist. These have been proven to be the most effective treatment methods. It will be easier for kids to overcome their symptoms if their parents are able to learn certain techniques from the therapist which they could apply at home.
Treatments for ADHD are many and varied. You should take pains in finding out which ones are most effective for your child. Treatments vary for each individuals because each individual is unique. Whatever works for your child and you don’t have any reservation about giving them, then you should give it to your child.
Parents should not worry too much about having children with ADHD because this condition is not something that cannot be cured. There are many people who have overcome this disorder. It has been observed that when children with ADHD grow up, their hyperactive behavior simply goes away as they grow older. The good thing also is that some of the kids that have suffered ADHD have become happy and successful individuals, as grown ups. Parents should not ignore hyperactivity in their children especially if it is coupled with poor performance in school because it can be a symptom of ADHD, so to be sure, it is best to bring your child to consult with a doctor to get a proper diagnosis of his behavior.
